Access Control for Corporate Offices in Oman

Still handing out physical keys, or running an old card system nobody can pull a proper log from? Lyqa Tech Ventures designs, supplies, installs and maintains access control systems for corporate offices across Oman – from a single-door head office in Muscat to a multi-branch company managing entry across several cities.

We are an Omani-owned technology company registered as an SME, working across Muscat, Sohar, Salalah and Duqm. One engineering team handles the site survey, the system design, the installation, the staff configuration and the ongoing support – so there’s no gap between the people who sold it and the people who fix it later.

Why Access Control Matters for Corporate Offices in Oman

The Law that Governs Biometric Data: Oman's PDPL

Many suppliers will sell an office a fingerprint or face-recognition system without mentioning that biometric data is treated differently under Omani law. Oman's Personal Data Protection Law (Royal Decree 6/2022), in force since February 2023 and regulated by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT), classifies biometric data as sensitive personal data. Under Article 5, processing it - which includes storing employee fingerprints or facial templates for door access - is restricted unless the organization has the required authorization from the Ministry.

What This Means for Your Access Control System

It doesn't mean biometric access control is off the table. It means the system should be specified with this in mind: how templates are stored, whether raw biometric data leaves the device, and whether the company has addressed its consent and authorization obligations before rollout. We flag this during the design stage rather than after installation, so it isn't a surprise once staff are already enrolled.

Where Offices Get This Wrong

The recurring mistakes we see aren't about the hardware. They're a card system with no role-based permissions, so every employee can open every door. A leaver whose access was never revoked. No audit log anyone can actually pull when something goes missing. A biometric system installed with no thought given to data handling. None of these show up until there's an incident.

Access Control Systems We Install and Maintain

Card and RFID access control

Each employee carries a card or fob that's matched to their identity in the system. It remains the most common choice for corporate offices because it's affordable, fast to issue, and familiar to staff - the trade-off is that a lost or shared card is a lost or shared credential.

PIN code access control

A shared or individual code at the door. Low-cost and simple to deploy for low-risk areas, but codes get passed around informally, which makes them a weaker fit for anywhere access needs to be traced back to a specific person.

Biometric access control

Fingerprint or face-recognition readers for server rooms, finance departments, or executive floors where you need certainty that the credential can't be lent to someone else. Given Oman's data protection requirements around biometric data, we scope these deployments with data handling built in from day one.

Mobile and app-based access control

Staff use their phone as the credential instead of a physical card. Useful for organizations that already issue company phones or want to cut card-printing overhead, though it depends on every employee having a working, charged device at the door.

Access Control System Integration

An access system that sits on its own, disconnected from everything else, does half the job. We integrate access control with:

CCTV - pulling matching footage automatically against any access event

Visitor management - time-limited credentials for guests instead of a paper sign-in book

Fire alarm systems - configuring controlled doors to fail-safe (unlock) automatically during an evacuation

Time and attendance - accurate staff hours without a second device at the door

Special Access Needs for Offices

Not every office has the same requirements:

Multi-branch companies need one platform that manages permissions across Muscat, Sohar and other locations centrally, rather than a separate system per site.

Server rooms and data cabinets need stricter verification than the main entrance - usually biometric or two-factor, with a tighter audit trail.

Elevator access control restricts which floors a card or credential can reach, which matters in shared or multi-tenant office buildings.

Shared or leased office buildings need access systems that respect landlord infrastructure while still giving the tenant company its own permission set.

How a Lyqa Tech Access Control Project Runs

Site survey

We walk the office, count doors and entry points, and identify which actually need restricting - not every internal door needs a reader.

System design

credential type, door hardware, and permission structure recommended based on staff count, departments, and security level required.

Installation

readers, controllers and door hardware installed with minimal disruption to a working office.

Configuration and staff enrollment

access rules set up by role and department, staff credentials enrolled, and your admin team trained to add or remove users themselves.

Support

ongoing maintenance and AMC support so the system keeps working reliably as headcount and floors change.

What Drives The Cost of an Access Control System in Oman

We don't publish fixed prices, because the real number depends on the building. These are the variables that actually move it:

Number of doors and entry points requiring control.

Credential type - card, PIN, biometric, or mobile, and any mix of these across different areas.

Number of employees and users to be enrolled and managed.

Integration scope - CCTV Cameras, visitor management, and time and attendance all add engineering and configuration time.

Single office versus multi-branch - a centralized platform across several cities costs more to set up than one site, but saves on ongoing admin.

Data handling requirements - biometric deployments carry additional scoping under Oman's PDPL.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do we need special permission to use fingerprint or face recognition access control in Oman?

Biometric data is classified as sensitive personal data under Oman’s PDPL, and processing it is restricted unless the organization holds the required authorization from the Ministry (MTCIT). We factor this into the system design and can point you toward what your organization needs to have in place.

Yes – it’s common to use cards for general staff entry and reserve biometric verification for server rooms, finance, or other restricted areas.

Yes, a centralized platform lets you manage and monitor permissions for offices in different cities from a single dashboard.

Controllers keep working locally with battery backup, so doors don’t fail open or lock everyone out during a short outage; logs sync once connectivity returns.

A single-floor office with a handful of doors is usually completed within a few days; multi-floor or multi-branch rollouts take longer depending on scope.
